Taking Credit Score Cleanup National - Franchise Territory Creation for Go Clean Credit

Nationwide Sales Territory Map

The territories created for Go Clean Credit varied in square mileage because population density differs across the U.S.  Maponics was able to create 1,000 territories which included 300,000 people each.

For Trevor Koskovich it was time to go national. For three and a half years, his company, Go Clean Credit, had been helping people clean up their credit reports – primarily in the Phoenix area. But with the increased need to monitor credit scores for identity theft, and more stringent credit requirements from financial services companies, business forecasts were good nationwide.  So he started franchising his company.

“We needed to divide the whole U.S. – all fifty states – into franchise territories of about 300,000 people each,” says Koskovich. That meant creating roughly 1,000 territories – not only a bear of a job, but one that could have been too costly for a startup franchisor. Believing that off-the-shelf mapping programs had severe limitations, he contacted several mapping companies he found through web searches. Koskovich immediately had a good feeling about Maponics’ ability to understand and serve his needs.

“We were principally selling in the Phoenix area, but we couldn’t just start in Phoenix and define territories spanning out from there as we needed them.”  There was always the possibility that a potential franchisee would call from far away – say, Vermont – and a territory would have to be created ad hoc.

The solution was to front-load the territory creation work, but print the maps only as needed. “Trevor wanted the territories defined by ZIP Code,” says Darrin Clement, the Maponics’ sales person who structured the agreement to fit Go Clean Credit’s business plan.  “ZIP Codes are numerous enough and have a small enough average population size that you can combine them to make territories that differ only slightly from one another in population. Trevor was right to contact us from the outset because if you try to create territories on a piecemeal, as needed basis, you end up working from multiple, widely scattered center points, and territories in the regions where they meet become messy. It’s best to divide up the whole country in one process.”

Maponics created territories for the entire country and provided three large (four-by-six feet) overview maps, labeled and color-coded. With these Koskovich knows at a glance what the possibilities are for any distant potential franchise owner. Detailed maps for each franchise territory are also created, but only once an individual territory is purchased – satisfying the logistics of the job while not unduly stressing Go Clean Credit’s start-up costs. As Koskovich puts it, “Maponics really understood and met our needs.”
