City Boundaries

More than half the world’s population lives in cities—and that portion is estimated to grow to 70% by 2050.  Cities are not only population centers but also tourist destinations—in short, cities are where most people spend their time and money.  That is why Maponics offers City Boundaries—a variety of geographic datasets that enable search and provide reference points in and around metro areas.  The datasets include both geographic boundaries that can power searches and other location-based services on web and mobile maps as well as a full index of points, including more than 400,000 points for neighborhood, school, Census , civil, and other populated places.

City Points

Maponics City Points contains the latitude and longitude of more than 250,000 populated places in the US and US Territories.  Based on the latest data from the Geographic Name Information System (GNIS), Maponics normalizes formats and documents the dataset for use by companies looking for a comprehensive geographic reference of US cities.

The City Points dataset also contains the names of the county and state that the points fall within and the (GNIS) code and classification.

Municipal Boundaries

Municipal Boundaries represent the official and legal perimeters of local governments and the fundamental administrative boundaries within cities.  Municipal Boundaries are important in establishing everything from applicable tax and insurance rates to the level of town services available.  But because the official definition and recordkeeping process for municipal boundaries is different from region to region, and thousands change each year, the tax, insurance, real estate and other industries cannot rely on US Census data and do not have the resources to track this data themselves.

US Census Boundaries

The US Census Bureau provides numerous geographic boundary layers through TIGER that help define the boundaries in and around metro areas.  And of course, Census demographic data is generally available for these geographic units—facilitating analysis and target marketing.
