Recovery by Neighborhood Methodology
The following describes our methodology for presenting Recovery data within Maponics Neighborhood Boundaries.
- We obtained the latest (updated June 16, 2010) Cumulative National Summary of Recovery Recipient-reported data file (CumulativeNationalSummary_Feb17_2009_Mar31_2010.csv) from Download Center on recovery.gov.
- From this file, we pulled Primary Recipients only (disregarding the supporting records for Sub and Vendor Recipients).
- We used the latitude/longitude for the Place of Performance for each Recovery record in the largest 100 US cities to match to the corresponding Maponics Neighborhood polygon (as a result, our data only shows data for records that match to one of our neighborhoods—not all Recovery data).
- We totaled jobs, amount awarded, and amount received for each neighborhood to generate a heat map of these three values.
